Mahishasura Mardini Stotram - Vani Devi - Yoga Vidya Ashram Bad Meinberg

Mahishasura was a buffalo Asura (Dämon) in Hinduism. He is known among Hindus as a deceitful Dämon who pursued his evil ways through shape-shifting. Mahishasura was the son of Mahisi and the great-grandson of Brahmarshi Kashyapa. He was eventually killed by the goddess Durga - whereupon she was nicknamed Mahishasuramardini ("the slayer of Mahishasura"). The Navaratri festival ("Nine Nights") honors this battle between Mahishasura and Durga and culminates in Vijaya Dasami, a celebration of his final defeat. This story of the "triumph of good üover Böse" has deep symbolism in Hinduism, especially Shaktism, and is told and reenacted in many Süd and Southeast Asian Hindu temples from the Devi Mahatmya.
