I play flutes and whistles of all kinds including the Scandinavian style overtone, harmonic or “willow” flute. My first overtone flutes and tunes were learned from JeanPierre Yvert but I now collect, write and arrange my own melodies for this unusual instrument and run a Facebook page and group World Wide Willow Flutes.
As a band we are:
We have a diverse and widespread network of players and learners of the overtone flute in the UK that currently meet by video link weekly to learn and exchange tunes. We have made recordings of one or two of them and hope to do more in the near future. We play largely in the Scandinavian style but are rapidly creating a repertoire of newly composed pieces for the instrument.
Instruments:
Flutes and whistles of all kinds from piccolo to contrabass classical flutes, simple system wooden flutes ancient and modern, high and low whistles, flageolet, Chinese traditional flute, ocarinas, recorders and of course the harmonic/overtone or willow flutes. Also small harp and concertina.
Influences:
Classical, Irish, Scottish, French, Scandinavian, Eastern European, South American folk and traditional styles. Early and Baroque music also interest me.
