Hi Miroslav,
yes, the optical feedback in real time is very important, I use it with my opera-singers students to develop extra-formant. But for this I use Audition, too.
For the mic question, I think that a good mic is useless without a good sound-board and a good equalization, and vice versa.

My useful equipment:

How you can see in my video collection i am using the OVERTONE ANALYZER by www.sygyt.com for visualizing my overtones and also for voice analysis in my vocal coaching praxis. The optical feedback in real time on a monitor is quiet useful to improve the singing performance, so i recommend to use it regularly.

In concerts i like to use natural or artificial reverb and delay for the following reason: During the inspiratory time the effective energy of sound on a physical level stays at work. Therefore i use the VOCAL PROCESSOR VX400 by Digitech, when a perfect acoustic room is missing.

As a very practical MOBILE RECORDING SYSTEM the H4 by Zoom is my permanent companion.

I am still in quest of suitable microphones for harmonic singing...What is your recommendation?

Thanks David,
very interesting.
Sometimes I use Max/MSP too, but it needs many time to create patches. My cardiac problems are finished (do you rimember?), so when I have more time we meet, finally!

HARMONIC VISION audiovisualization program, 1998-2008

Greetings, Following the "In Light of Sound" work I did in the 80s and early 90s with physical cymatics procedures for visualizing Harmonic Chant (following my early years in experimental cinema), since about 1998 I've developing software applications for transforming Harmonic Chant into visual and video art and projections, first in collaboration with the makers of "Videodelic" and "Onadime." The program is called "Harmonic Vision" and currently works on Mac OS X. It is based on the MAX/MSP platform. The program has been primarily developed for our Harmonic Presence Foundation projects. For example, it was used in our recent evening for the Mind and Life Institute at the Garrison Institute. As you may know, the MLI brings together neuroscientists from around the world with contemplative practitioners to explore how contemplative practice changes consciousness and the brain.

The Foundation is exploring a limited commercial release of the software as a way to help raise funds for our philanthropic work in the area of human rights, especially Tibet.

As for musical software, I use primarily ProTools and Logic. My preferred microphones are those made by Microtech Gefell.
