Overtone Music Network

a common space & database for harmonic overtones

Wang Li's compositions are generally inspired by his own experience: memories of childhood and his family, his life. He has fond memories of nursery rhymes and counting songs, whose simple rhythms he still appreciates.

The jew's harp is one of his favourite instruments. it's simplicity gives him the freedom for his creativity. His compositions show great sensitivity by using the language of his native region.

Wang Li was born in Shandong in China, the son of military parents, members of the chinese Communist party. Until the age of seven, he lived with his grandparents in a residential complex of people's army. In such a strict military environment he didn't received musical training. After graduation from university in 2001, he decided not to accept the life that his parents had maped out for him and left for Paris alone. He entered the Paris conservatoire to study Jazz, he chose the music as his life.
