Very interesting sounds. Are the glissandos there for the purpose of bringing the song closer to indian music?

Thank you for the question. Each raga has a specific way to approach notes. In this Yaman Kalyani alaap it is within the parameters of the raga to use glissando-like movements in some places. The traditional rendering of the raga would otherwise sound very similar except instead of using overtones they would sing on 'ah' or on chosen syllables such as 're' or 'ri' or 'na'.
