I am also a member of GEMA, but I am not satisfied with their policy, I think musicians should have control over their music in a way Nestor Kornblum and Knud Riishøjgård describe it. I would be delighted when the lack of sovereignity for german musicians belonging to GEMA would be solved via European Law.

I am a longterm member of ASCAP.

Hello Nestor,

thanks a lot for your comment. I am not an expert in media law but since some weeks I know that I have to purchase a licence to run a side like this - but I don't agree with these conditions. Musicians should use their own music whereever and whenever they want and they should have total control about their music. In Germany musicians haven't this total control yet if they are member of the GEMA. That is maybe against a common unique European Law. Therefore I am not willing to purchase a licence from the GEMA for this website.

Harmonic Greetings,
Jens

Hi Everyone,
I'm a member of SGAE the Spanish association of authors and musicians. However, I have total control over my music and I can place it wherever I wish and give permissions to any site to publish my music. I also have signed agreements with BFM digital to sell my music via sites worlwide (e.g. Amazon, iTunes etc..) They're agreat company and you can check them out on Facebook... Harmonic Gretings

Hello Nandin,

thanks for question. Here is a link that GEMA allows their members for free to present their music for Self-Presentation on websites. If this is right I haven't pay for a licence from the GEMA to host music by members of the GEMA. If this is not right I have to purchase a licence from the GEMA that allows me to host music which underlies the special Terms of Service by the GEMA. If you are member of the GEMA your music can't used free in all context. One conclusion is that I can't feature songs by members who are members of GEMA, ASCAP or other Societies for musical performing and mechanical reproduction rights.

This issue will be solved if I purchase a licence about from 40 up to 150 EUR. But I don't want do this in advance because I don't want support this society. They can support this network and community with their income instead i purchase a licence.

Not all my music is registered with GEMA.

What exactly does this mean:
The music underlies special Terms of Service is used for self-presentation only on this network.

I am a member of KODA/NCB (Nordic Copyright Bureau). KODA has - since 2008 - made it possible for us members to publish works under one of several CC licenses (not including commercial use).
So maybe I don't belong to this group, after all? :)
