Overtone Music Network

a common space for harmonic overtones

I had this idea for a thread where we post youtube videos and other stuff that might be useful, interesting, unknown, or anything else.
I start with a few videos:
You probably saw this guy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HwANedEkqaY He is pretty impressive, though I think he's not tuvan. Title says mongolian, but some people call everything from the middle east mongolian... I don't know, does anyone know more about him and the song?
Second, this clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2uf1lEawgTE Kongar-Ool Ondar is raping in Kargraa. It's really cool and you probably know that one, too.
The last video is quite unknown, but really cool, even though it doesn't directly feature throat singing... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7LYJzl6ZKBU The idea is just awesome, check it out. ;-)

I could go ahead and post every link to every video on my playlist... but I won't

Here is one related link though:

That's cool, didn't see that before.
You see here Luke and Kyle Abbott (Fiddlefella). The Abbotts appear to be a very musical family. I don't really know them or much about them, but they simply LOVE music. Luke and Kyle perform many folk and country songs, not just American ones, they have a sweet rendition of "Dyngyldai" in their list as well.

Nice. :-)

I'm deeply sorry but i just need to share this. It's not related to throat singing as it should be, however i found it truly amazing.

Weird!!
Greetings, Friends!

I first started listening to throat singing on a website called lastfm.com. It does not have videos but has tons of throat singing and some still shots. My favorite singer so far is Oleg Kuular. If you go there and search for his name you can listen to a most excellent Sygyt style. I do not think I can link it here, sorry. I do hope you can get a chance to hear him - and give your feedback.

Yeah, Oleg is a great artist

Hi Alzin and others throat singing addicted,
About the first youtube video, this guy IS Mongolian : Enkhjargal Dandarvaanchig, aka Epi. He is a very talented morin huur player and singer, specially in "normal" voice and kargyraa style. He himself admit he is not that good on höömii with high pitched overtones. Don't know about the song itself.
What's more, he is a really friendly guy. We spent some time together a few months ago, and he shared some tips and advices for my morin huur playing :-)
Thanks. So that's mongolian throat singing...

Sam, I didn't know you played strings too. I thought you were a jaw harper and flautist only.
When you speak of Höömii with high overtones, is that the style called Isgeree?
