I saw this film years ago (made in '79), and just saw it again now. I remembered the opening scene where a competition occurred including a man singing overtones (not Asian throat singing). This was supposedly based on the true story of Gurdjieff's early years. Since he was born in 1866, this would have been very early for such a 'western' adaptation. Perhaps the inclusion of overtone singing in the film was taking some liberties with history, but if there is any basis in truth, it has…

Perhaps the inclusion of overtone singing in the film was taking some liberties with history, but if there is any basis in truth, it has interesting implications. Any thoughts on this? <br/><br/>You can view the whole film here:<br/><br/><a href="http://www.sprword.com/videos/meetingswithremarkable/">http://www.sprword.com/videos/meetingswithremarkable/</a> Missionary work in Tuva and Mongolia using overtone singingtag:www.overtone.cc,2010-04-12:884327:Topic:910192010-04-12T20:30:05.959ZAndrew Colwellhttps://www.overtone.cc/profile/AndrewColwell
Recently I have been looking into missionary work in the Altai region in which "indigenous" music forms--like xoomi/overtone singing--are being researched or even used for spreading the presence of "The Lord". Here is one video from Mongolia: <br></br><br></br>

<br/>Heart-sounds.org, a missionary organization trying to facilitate Christian worship through traditional/local song and music forms, notes research projects in Tuva and Siberia (which includes Mongolia even though this page doesn't mention Mongolia).<br/><br/><a href="http://www.heart-sounds.org/about/history.htm">http://www.heart-sounds.org/about/history.htm</a><br/><br/>Also, there are so-called "ethnodoxologists" like Robin Harris doing "ethnomusicological" work in Tuva. Ethnodoxologists investigate how worship can be superimposed upon traditional art forms by researching them. Recently, a magtaal or "praise song" has been written.<br/><br/>This is not a polemic, but to let you all know about this important issue. It shows another way in which religious narratives are being created using xoomi/overtone-singing.<br/><br/>Regards,<br/><br/>Andrew Colwell<br/><br/><br/> Advanced Search to find Memberstag:www.overtone.cc,2009-06-20:884327:Topic:709902009-06-20T06:05:20.659ZOMNhttps://www.overtone.cc/profile/impressum

If you click the "Advanced Search" link, you'll be taken to a page listing to the profile questions of this network and which are included in the search. Fill out the options or interests you're looking for in a member.</b><br/><br/> With this advanced search you can find members here in this network by their name, gender, country, city, state, instruments (which they play and their musical) influences and last but not least their self introduction in the field «About me«. So if you are a throat singer people can find you searching for <a href="/profiles/members/search?name=&gender=&country=&location=&q31=&q21=&q30=throat" target="_blank"><b>Throat</b></a> or <a href="/profiles/members/search?name=&gender=&country=&location=&q31=&q21=&q30=throat+singer" target="_blank"><b>throat singer</b></a> or <a href="/profiles/members/search?name=&gender=&country=&location=&q31=&q21=&q30=throat+singing" target="_blank"><b>throat singing</b></a>. Where do you would search for throat singing? Check it out. The best item could be the self introduction in the advanced member search - the field »about me«. To find out which instrument a musician plays it could be the profile question »instruments««. For example a jaw harper plays a jew's harp, jaw harp, mouth harp, khomus, dan moi or something like that. So she or he plays this instrument called <a href="/profiles/members/search?name=&gender=&country=&location=&q31=jew%27s+harp&q21=&q30=&page=1" target="_blank"><b>jew's harp</b></a>. If you search <a href="/profiles/members/search?name=&gender=&country=&location=&q31=&q21=&q30=overtone+singing&page=6" target="_blank"><b>overtone singing</b></a> in the field »about me« you will find up to 60 members now. But don't believe this result. There are more than 60 overtone singers in this network. This search result depends on how members have tagged their profile. For example there are some <a href="/profiles/members/search?name=&gender=&country=&location=berlin&q31=&q21=&q30=overtone+singer" target="_blank"><b>overtone singer</b></a> in the location/city <a href="/profiles/members/search?name=&gender=&country=&location=berlin&q31=&q21=&q30=overtone+singer" target="_blank"><b>Berlin</b></a> but you will find just <a href="/profiles/members/search?name=&gender=&country=&location=berlin&q31=&q21=&q30=overtone+singer" target="_blank">one</a> person at this moment. If you check out only the single keyword <a href="/profiles/members/search?name=&gender=&country=&location=berlin&q31=&q21=&q30=" target="_blank"><b>Berlin</b></a> you will for example <a href="/profile/Arjopa" target="_blank"><b>Arjopa</b> -</a> <a href="/profile/Avalona" target="_blank"><b>Avalona</b>,</a> <a href="/profile/wavegarden" target="_blank"><b>Carlos Michael</b> -</a> <a href="/profile/DanielPircher" target="_blank"><b>Daniel Pircher</b></a> - <a href="/profile/MarkusVirck" target="_blank"><b>Marcantée the blind bard</b>,</a> - <a href="/profile/MiroslavGrosser" target="_blank"><b>Miroslav Grosser</b></a> - <a href="/profile/nadishana" target="_blank"><b>Vladiswar Nadishana</b></a> and the <a href="/profile/MirkaledoDreeston" target="_blank"><b>Mirkaledo Dreeston Profile</b></a> with Gerd Krause and Simon Jakob Drees, Gudrun Doberenz, Kerstin Dambeck, Petra Dambeck, Robert Winter and Rosemarie Uhlig and they all <a href="/profiles/members/search?name=&gender=&country=&location=&q31=&q21=&q30=chanting+harmonics" target="_blank"><b>chanting harmonics</b></a> or they »practise« <a href="/profiles/members/search?name=&gender=&country=&location=&q31=&q21=&q30=harmonic+singing" target="_blank"><b>harmonic singing</b></a> or shorter <a href="/profiles/members/search?name=&gender=&country=&location=&q31=&q21=&q30=harmonic+chant" target="_blank"><b>harmonic chant</b></a><br/> <br/> So what to do? If you want that vistors of this site will find your profile you can try to find your own profile. If you can not find your profile quickly or you get no satisfaction with your search result just add words like »throat«, »overtone singing« or stuff like that to your profile. If you are playing the instrument <a href="/profiles/members/search?name=&gender=&country=&location=&q31=sitar&q21=&q30=&page=1" target="_blank"><b>sitar</b></a> use this keyword sitar in your profile. Instruments are recommended to add in the profile question: »instruments.« Really you can find everything for example the single word <a href="/profiles/members/search?name=&gender=&country=&location=&q31=&q21=&q30=grid" target="_blank"><b>grid</b></a>. <br/> <br/> <b>Good to know is which keywords are used in the tab »POOL« and the new »SITE MAP«. It is <a href="/profiles/members/search?name=&gender=&country=&location=&q31=&q21=&q30=artist" target="_blank">artist</a> - <a href="/profiles/members/search?name=&gender=&country=&location=&q31=&q21=&q30=musician&page=1" target="_blank">musician</a> - <a href="/profiles/members/search?name=&gender=&country=&location=&q31=&q21=&q30=overtone+singing" target="_blank">overtone singing</a> - <a href="/profiles/members/search?name=&gender=&country=&location=&q31=&q21=&q30=throat" target="_blank">throat</a> - <a href="/profiles/members/search?name=&gender=&country=&location=&q31=fujara&q21=&q30=" target="_blank">fujara</a> - <a href="/profiles/members/search?name=&gender=&country=&location=&q31=sitar&q21=&q30=" target="_blank">sitar</a> - <a href="/profiles/members/search?name=&gender=&country=&location=&q31=didgeridoo&q21=&q30=" target="_blank">didgeridoo</a> - <a href="/profiles/members/search?name=&gender=&country=&location=&q31=tabla&q21=&q30=" target="_blank">tabla</a> - <a href="/profiles/members/search?name=&gender=&country=&location=&q31=jew%27s+harp&q21=&q30=&page=1" target="_blank">jew's harp</a></b></td>
